COACHING PHILOSOPHY
At Breakaway Hockey Experience we strive to foster player engagement and great relationships. We teach skills that go beyond the rink.
All of our staff are selected for their ability to engage with players and build trust. By creating an environment of mutual respect and learning, our staff get to know players on a deeper level and as a result, elicit greater effort from them while seeing their enjoyment of the game grow.
Our methods are proven to succeed. We have high satisfaction from our players and their families, many have returned to participate in many more programs.
Breakaway Hockey Experience staff have a passion for all aspects of the game of hockey and a commitment to staying current with the evolution of the game and the teaching strategies which they use. Too often coaches or instructors solely focus on a player's limitations at the expense of things the player does well. We believe if someone is weak at skating yet strong at shooting, focus should remain on both elements, optimizing strengths while improving developmental areas.

Chris ButtsChris has been a coach for over twenty years, coaching both hockey and soccer over that time. He has coached for three different organizations within the GTHL. He brings an understanding of the practices that are at the core of Breakaway's values and beliefs, and as a father of three boys, he also brings an understanding of a parent.
Chris has been an instructor with Breakaway since it's inception and looks forward to continuing to grow with the company. He most recently helped the NHL expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights run a program to introduce kids to hockey in Nevada.
